We know that genetic issues of personality traits and temperaments, family history, environmental and cultural pressures, along with issues of depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD are at the root of many eating disorders.
For those with eating disorders, the acts of food restriction, excessive exercising, binge eating and purging behaviors are an unconscious attempt to manage and cope with internal sources of pain, conflict and discomfort/distress. It is the nature of an eating disorder to appear as the sole source of stress for an individual and their family.
At Puente de Vida, your client will be medically stabilized, nutritionally restored and safely supported while focusing on their unique issues and recovery. Our goal is to assist your client in recognizing that the eating disorder behavior is a distraction from a more primary source of stress, i.e., trait/temperament, depression, anxiety and/or trauma. Once discharged back to |
your care, your client will be engaged in working on the core issues beneath the eating disorder. We encourage your active participation in your client’s treatment at Puente de Vida through weekly co-treatment sessions.
Our treatment goal is to internalize the recovery structure, i.e., mechanical eating becomes intuitive eating.
Treatment is holistic encompassing the biological, psychological and spiritual needs of your client. |
